Peaberry Coffee

You have never tasted fresh, rare Tanzanian arabica peaberry until you have tasted Gwandu! Tanzania Peaberry coffee is lively, savory, and one of Tanzania's most distinguished coffees. Only 10% of coffee beans are Peaberry beans. Our Tanzania Peaberry coffee is special, offering a bold taste combined with low acidity.

The best Peaberry coffee requires the cooler climate of high elevation sites (1,400-2,000 meters).   Our location within the Mount Kilimanjaro/Ngorongoro area is particularly known for the production of fine coffees, combining altitude with deep volcanic soils and abundant rainfall.

The Tanzania Peaberry coffee beans roast easily, absorbing all the flavors for optimal flavor quality.  In order to package the full experience of this unique bean, Gwandu always attempts to roast and mail its coffees on the same day.

Our roasting times can range from 9 to 11 minutes, producing a full-bodied "medium" roast that is sometimes called "city roast."  On occasion, depending on the farmer who receives the order, roasting times may range from 12 to 13 minutes, producing a dark roast known as French or Viennese coffee.

Farm Direct

Farm Direct means that the grower sells to you directly, with no middleman.

Think of those fruit and vegetable stands along the side of a cornfield in almost every state -- you walk up and can buy the produce picked that morning! No trucks, warehouses, ships, grocery shelves, and preservatives! Simple, easy, and fresh. Gwandu Coffee is your very own coffee stand on the cool and misty slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, in the heart of the Irakw coffee farms.

Roast to Order

What distinguishes our coffee is exotic freshness.

The Gwandu families harvest the coffee by hand in small batches and then store the green coffee in cool conditions until an order arrives. The coffee is roasted by hand when an order is received, and then sent by direct air freight to the customer. The order to delivery process may take up to 14 days, depending on the Tanzania post. When post disruptions occur, we may roast and ship directly from a small batch held in our Dallas facility.

Our on the farm, roast-to-order, and direct mail process ensures that you receive the very best expression of pure Tanzania peaberry.

Quality Control

The harvesting season in Tanzania usually lasts from July to December. Conventionally, green coffee is sold either through the Moshi auction or direct to buyers. Coffee is shipped to buyers out of the major ports of Dar es Salaam and Tanga.

Gwandu is different. Our farmers harvest their coffee and, after an appropriate "rest" period for the beans to permit the flavors to deepen, roast it to order and mail direct to consumers. Gwandu farmers hand pick small crops from their own acreage and reserve these special crops solely for Gwandu. They do not offer these crops at auction.

Because Gwandu Coffee is not sold through auction, Gwandu crops are not "inspected" or graded for quality. Gwandu believes, however, that its beans would be classified as “AA,” the finest variety. Because the beans are roasted by hand, consumers may experience variation in quality and taste.

If you don’t like Gwandu, contact sales@gwanducoffee.com and you will be provided with a full refund, including shipping costs.
